8月27日(木)、落語を通して仏教に親しむ企画「おてらくごのススメ」が築地本願寺銀座サロンで開かれました。ご来場・ご視聴に御礼申し上げます。
まず、三遊亭圓雀師匠に落語「佐野山」を演じて頂きました。相撲取りの佐野山は親孝行でした。しかし貧しくて十分に食べることもできず、負け続けていました。
ある日、佐野山は横綱・谷風と対戦することになりました。みんなは谷風が佐野山よりはるかに強いと知っているので、その取り組みを不思議に思い、佐野山が勝ったら懸賞金を出すという人もいました。実は、この取り組みは谷風が望んだものでした。谷風は佐野山にわざと負けて、佐野山が親孝行できるようにしようと思ったのです。はたして佐野山が勝ち、後に「谷風の情け相撲」と讃えられました。
その後、私が「原則に反する行為」について話しました。谷風は佐野山にわざと負けました。これは「ごまかし」と言うこともできますが、これで佐野山とその父親を助けることになったのです。だから谷風は情け深さを讃えられ、非難されませんでした。
仏教は殺生を戒めています。しかし本願寺第8代の蓮如上人(1415-1499)は、猟師や漁師は自分の仕事をするべきだと記しています。狩猟や漁業は生き物の命を奪いますが、世の役に立っています。原則からはずれても、それが良い結果となるなら、非難に値しないということです。
On August 27, "OTERAKUGO NO SUSUME" was held at the Tsukiji Hongwanji Ginza Salon. This was an event to like Buddhism though rakugo, Japanese trditional comic storytelling. Thank you for coming and watching.
First, Mr. SANYUTEI Enjaku performed a rakugo "Sanoyana" (A sumo wrestler's name). In the story of the rakugo, Sanoyama, a sumo wrestler was kind to his old father. But, he was poor, so he could not eat enough, and he continued to lose at his bouts.
One day, he was scheduled to fight against Tanikaze, a grand champion. Everyone knew that Tanikaze was much stronger than Sanoyama, So, they were wondering about the bout, someone promised to give Sanoyama prize if he won Tanikaze. To tell the truth, this bout was what Tanikaze proposed. Tanikaze thought to intentionally lose to Sanoyama because Sanoyama would be able to be kind to his mother. Thus, Sanoyama won. Later, Tanikaze was praised for his compassion.
Next, I talked about doing against rules. Tanikaze intentionally lost to Sanoyama. We can say that Tanikaze tricked the public. However, it resulted to help Sanoyama and his father. So, Tanikaze was praised for his consideration. No one blamed him.
Buddhism tells us not to kill lives. However, Rennyo Shonin (1415-1499), the eighth generation leader of Hongwanji, wrote that hunters should hunt and fishers should fish. Hunters and fishers' job help us even though their job causes to kill lives. What we do inconsistent with rules would not deserve to criticize if it caused good results that helped others.
