6月16日、新しいお寺、自然寺(神奈川県海老名市)が開かれる記念行事に行ってきました。
会場では 立川談慶師匠に落語「柳田格之進」を演じて頂きました。その後に対談で「緩衝材としての仏教」について話しました。正義は時に先鋭化して争いの種になります。対立を和らげるのが、緩衝材です。お釈迦様は排他的な振る舞いを警戒していた様子があります。だから、仏教は他の宗教と共存してきました。加えて、仏教の戒律は厳しそうに見えて意外と緩やかです。
I visited Ebina City, Kanagawa prefecture on June 16. We held an event to celebrate the opening of a new Buddhist temple, Jinenji.
At the event, Mr. TATEKAWA Dankei performed a Rakugo "YANAGIDA Kakunoshin" (A samurai's name in this story). Then, he and I talked about Buddhism as buffers. Justice sometimes sharpens to cause conflicts. Buffers ease conflicts. The Buddha seemed to warn of exclusive behavior. So, Buddhism has coexisted with other religions. In addition, the Buddhist precepts are unexpectedly moderate though they look strict.
