落語を通して仏教に親しむ企画「銀座の落語寺」が1月10日、築地本願寺GINZAサロンで開催されました。ご来場そしてご覧頂きありがとうございます。
まず、古今亭志ん雀師匠に落語「妾馬」を演じていただきました。この落語で、江戸の町人の八五郎が、ある殿様に招かれました。八五郎の妹は殿様の側室で、跡継ぎを生んだからです。八五郎は上流階級の作法など知りませんが、殿様はそんな八五郎を気に入って、八五郎を侍に取り立てました。
次に私が「人生の抜け道」についてお話しました。近代以前は身分制度がありましたが、それでも上の身分になった人たちがいました。制度の抜け道があったのです。そのひとつが、出家することです。僧侶の社会は俗世間から外れていて、僧侶は俗世間の身分制度の制限を受けないと考えられていたのです。今の社会には身分制度はありませんが、私たちの人生にも抜け道は必要です。進む道を変えることも、いくつもの道を掛け持ちすることもできます。仏教には、仏教の目的である「仏の境地」に至る道が無数にあります。仏教のように、私たちの人生にもさまざまな道があるのです。

On January 10, we held "Ginza No Rakugodera", an event to like Buddhism through Rakugo at the Tsukiji Hongwanji Ginza Salon. Thank you for coming and watching it.
First, Mr. KOKONTEI Shinjaku performed a Rakugo "Mekauma" (A lord's concubine and a horse). In this Rakugo, Hachigoro, a commoner who lived in Edo (An old name of Tokyo), was invited by a lord. Because Hachigoro's sister was the lord's concubine and had just born an heir of the lord. Hachigoro did not know the manner of the aristocracy. But, the lord was so interested in him that the lord promoted Hachigoro to a samurai.
Next, I talked about the bypaths of our life. Before the modern, they had class systems. However, some people were able to rise their class despite the system. There were the bypaths of the system. One of the bypaths was becoming a Buddhist priest. They regarded priests' society as out of the worldly system. They also regarded that class system did not restrict priests. We need the bypaths of our life although we do not have the class system in the current society. We can switch the way to step on. We can also go on several ways at the same time. Buddhism has countless ways to the purpose of Buddhism, which is awakening. We have a variety of ways of our life, like Buddhism.

2023 has just come! May this year be a peaceful one.
Even though a year changes, the important things remain the same.
The following is one of Rennyo Shonin's (1415-1499) songs in praise of the Buddha; Remember the spirit of Namo Amida Butsu (calling Amitayus Buddha's name) while you celebrate a new year.
初詣の時期、とくに1月1日から3日、お寺や神社へ多くの人がお参りします。有名な所は混むでしょうが、有名でなくてもお参りできます。地元で初詣はいかがでしょうか？
In Japan, we have a custom that we worship at Buddhist temples or Shinto shrines on new year's days, especially from January 1 through 3. Famous temples and shrines will be crowded. But, we can worship where it is not well known. Would you worship at a temple or shrine in your neighborhood?
