熊本地震から2年経ちました。再建の進んでいないお寺も少なくありません。
2 years pass since Kumamoto earthquake occurred. The considerable Buddhist temple was not yet rebuilt in Kumamoto.
何がお坊さんへの印象を悪くするか？ What makes impression to Buddhist priests bad ?
浄土真宗の研究機関、浄土真宗本願寺派総合研究所は、昨年8月のエンディング産業展 (ENDEX 2017) でアンケート調査を行いました。その結果が公表されました。
これによりますと、お坊さんの印象を悪くしている主なものは、
(1)お布施など金銭に関するもの。
(2)人に対する態度
の2点です。
反省しなければなりません。
The Jodo Shinshu Studies and research center asked a questionnaire at ENDEX JAPAN 2017 -- JAPAN FUNERAL & CEMETERY SHOW -- on August 2017.
A result of the questionnaire survey has been made public.
The result shows that Buddhist priests give society bad impression because of their financial sense and their attitude toward people.
We should reflect on ourselves.

東京仏教学院の入学式 An entrance ceremony of Tokyo Bukkyo Gakuin (The Tokyo Buddhist school)
4月9日、東京仏教学院の入学式が築地本願寺で行われました。東京仏教学院は、浄土真宗本願寺派の学校の一つです。
私はここで「仏教要説」(仏教の概論)を講義することになっています。
On April 9, an entrance ceremony of Tokyo Bukkyo Gakuin (The Tokyo Buddhist school) was held at Tsukiji Hongwanji temple. It is one of schools of Jodo Shinshu (The True Essence of Pure Land Teaching).
I will lecture on “Bukkyo Yosetsu”( an intrduction to Buddhism).
4月8日は花まつり

4月8日は、お釈迦さまの誕生日「花まつり」です。お釈迦さまは生まれたとき「天上天下唯我独尊」とおっしゃったと伝えられます。
誰でも、自分が一番大切なのです。だから、私たちはお互いに敬うべきなのです。
The Buddha's birthday

April 8 is the Buddha's birthday. According to tradition, the Buddha spoke “In the heavens above and the Earth below, I alone am honored” at his birth.
Anyone feels that oneself is most important. So, we should respect each other.
A symposium "Meeting death" was held.

We had a symposium "Meeting death" in the Tsukiji Hongwanji temple on March 25. The room of the symposium was full. Thank you for coming.
At the symposium, research fellows of the Jodo Shinshuu Studies and Research center did lectures of thoughts of Buddhism about death. We all must be dead someday. Thus, contemplating death means contemplating lives.
I talked about time between death and rebirth based on the Abhidharmakosa , it was written by Vasubandhu (A.D. 4th - 5th century ), he was one of the most famous Buddhist priest in India.
The Abhidharmakosa tells us that dead beings connect relation for rebirth between death and rebirth. It means that dead beings affect living beings. We can little recognize effects of dead beings. But, it is not that dead beings have no effects.
