最近「仏教が世界中に広まれば、世界はもっと平和になる」という話を聞きました。私はこの考えに賛成ではありません。
私も、仏教がもっと広まって欲しいと思っています。しかし、すべての人に仏教を信仰させるということは、他の信仰を排除することになります。そうすれば、対立を引き起こします。
何を信じるにせよ、それぞれがお互いを尊重し合う。そうすれば平和な世の中になると思います。
『増一阿含経』という経典にこのような話があります。お釈迦さまがある王に教えを説きました。すると王はとても喜んで、「私の宮殿には仏教徒しか入れないようにしよう。それ以外は出入り禁止だ」と言いました。お釈迦さまは王を諫めました。「そんなことをしてはいけません。仏教以外のものに供養することは素晴らしいことです。しかし、仏や僧への供養の功徳は計り知れません」。お釈迦さまは、他の宗教を否定されませんでした。
I recently heard that the world would be more peaceful if Buddhism spread all over the world. I do not agree with this idea.
I also hope Buddhism spreads more. However, requiring all people to believe in Buddhism means keeping out other beliefs. It results in conflicts.
Whatever we believe, we each respect each other. It would be a peaceful world.
A sutra, Zengyiehanjing (A Chinese translation of the Anguttaranikaya) tells the following; The Buddha preached to a king. Then, the king was very glad and said "I will permit only Buddhists to enter my palace. The others must not come in." The Buddha remonstrated to him "You should not do that. Offering to besides Buddism is excellent. However, the virtue of offering to Buddhas and the priests is inestimable." The Buddha did not deny the other religions.
