A symposium "Meeting death" was held.

We had a symposium "Meeting death" in the Tsukiji Hongwanji temple on March 25. The room of the symposium was full. Thank you for coming.

At the symposium, research fellows of the Jodo Shinshuu Studies and Research center did lectures of thoughts of Buddhism about death. We all must be dead someday. Thus, contemplating death means contemplating lives.

I talked about time between death and rebirth based on the Abhidharmakosa , it was written by Vasubandhu (A.D. 4th - 5th century ), he was one of the most famous Buddhist priest in India.

The Abhidharmakosa tells us that dead beings connect relation for rebirth between death and rebirth. It means that dead beings affect living beings. We can little recognize effects of dead beings. But, it is not that dead beings have no effects.

3月25日(日)、シンポジウム「死に出遇う」が、築地本願寺で開かれました。会場はおかげで満席になりました。お越し頂きありがとうございます。

このシンポジウムでは、浄土真宗本願寺派総合研究所の研究員たちが、仏教が死についてどう考えるかについて講演しました。私たちは皆、いずれ死にます。すなわち、死を考えることは生きることを考えることなのです。

私は『倶舎論(くしゃろん)』をもとに、中陰(死んでから生まれ変わるまでの中間の時期)について話しました。『倶舎論』は、インドの高僧・世親(ヴァスバンドゥ、AD4-5世紀)の著作です。

死んでから生まれ変わるまでの間、亡くなった人は、生まれ変わるための縁を結びつけると、『倶舎論』は説きます。これは、亡くなった人が生きている人に影響をあたえているということです。私たちは、亡くなった人の影響を認識することはまずできません。しかし、影響を認識できないことは、亡くなった人に影響力がないということではないのです。

シンポジウム「死に出遇う」開催されます

3月25日(日)、築地本願寺でシンポジウムが開かれます。テーマは「死に出遇う」です。
私たちの命には、いつか必ず終わりが来ます。だから、死を考えることは、その時までの命を考えることになります。
13:30開始で18:15終了予定です。

On March 25, we will have a symposium of which theme is "meeting death". Our lives must end someday. So, thinking about death means thinking about lives.
The symposium will be held at the Tsukiji Hongwanji temple, begin at 1:30 p.m. and be over at 6:15 p.m.

5月22日(火)、築地本願寺銀座サロンで「おてらくごのススメ」が開かれます。19時開演です。
まず古今亭志ん吉さんに落語「紙入れ」を演じて頂きます。そして私が「仏教では秘密についてどう考えるか」についてお話しします。

On May 22, "OTERAKUGO NO SUSUME" , an event to like Buddhism through rakugo will be held at the Tsukiji Hongwanji Ginza Salon. It will start at 7:00 p.m.
First, Mr. KOKONTEI Shinkichi will perform a rakugo "Kami ire (a wallet for bills)". Next, I will talk about what Buddhism thinks about secrets.

「私へのメッセージ」はあちこちにあります

3月6日、「おてらくごのススメ」が築地本願寺銀座サロンで開かれました。20名の方にお越し頂きました。ありがとうございます。

始めに、三遊亭春馬師匠に落語「ぜんざい公社」と「一目上がり」を演じて頂きました。落語「一目上がり」には、八五郎に掛け軸の言葉を解説する場面があります。その掛け軸の言葉の一つに、「柳緑花紅(柳は緑、花は紅)」があります。これは、「あるがままの姿が真実である。しかし、真実を知ることは難しい」ということを教えています

その後に私が、「私(たち)へのメッセージ」について話しました。世の中にはさまざまな情報があります。情報を知っているだけでは、ただの知識です。「この情報は、私に何を伝えようとしているのだろうか」と考えれば、それは「私へのメッセージ」になります。古くから多くの人が、柳や花を見てきました。しかし、柳や花から真実を見つけた人はなかなかいませんでした。柳や花から真実を見つけることができたのは、それらが何を伝えようとしているかを考えたからです。親鸞聖人は『論語』から浄土真宗の教えを見つけました。それは、『論語』が何を教えようとしているかを考えながら読んだからです。

On March 6, "OTERAKUGO NO SUSUME", an event to like Buddhism through rakugo was held at the Tsukiji Hongwanji Ginza Salon. 20 people came the event. Thank you for coming.

First, Mr. SANYUTEI Haruba performed two rakugoes "Zenzai Kosha"(The zenzai (sweet red beans soup with a grilled rice cake) public corporation) and "Hitome Agari"(increasing numbers one by one). In "Hitome Agari", old men told passages written in hanging scrolls to Hachigoro, a young man. One of the passages was "Willow leaves are green, flowers are red." It means "The truth are figures as they are, but it is difficult that we find the truth."

Next, I talked about "messages for me (us)." There are many information around the world. Information become messages for you when you think what the information try to tell you. Many people have seen willow leaves and flowers since ancient times, but few have found truth from them. They could find the truth from willow leaves and flowers because they thought what willow leaves and flowers tried to tell them. Shinran shonin found the Jodo Shinshu doctrines from the Analects of Confucius. For, he read the book thinking what it tried to tell him.
