At the day after tomorrow (March 8), "OTERAKUGO NO SUSUME" is held at Tsukiji Hongwanji Ginza Salon. An aim of this event is that you like Buddhism through rakugo, Japanese traditional comic storytelling. First, Mr. SANYUTEI Haruba will perform rakugo "Jugemu" and more one. Next, I will talk about human beings' desires.

有名人の伝記は粉飾されやすく、実像が謎になることがよくあります。とくに古代史は同時代史料が乏しいので、顕著です。これは聖徳太子に限りません。
確かに、「聖徳太子」という呼び名は、聖徳太子が亡くなって100年以上後のものです。でも、聖徳太子と「厩戸王」が同一人物だというなら、呼び方を変更する必要はないと私は考えます。
「後世の用語だから使わない」なら、「日中戦争」も使えなくなります。当時は「戦争」ではなく「事変」と呼ばれていました。

Biographies of famous people are tend to be embellished, their real images are often mystery. It is striking when we consider ancient history because there are few records of the same period. It is not only Shotoku Taishi.
Certainly, he began to be called "Shotoku Taishi" after more than 100 years after he died. I think if Shotoku Taishi and Umayado-no-o was the same person, it is not necessary to change his name.
If we do not use terms of coming ages, we can not use "the Japanese-Chinese War". It was not called "war" but "incident" at that time.
2月21日(火)、淑徳大学公開講座「すべては心の表れ～『唯識三十頌』を読む(2)～」の第10回(全12回)の講義をしてきました。
大乗仏教は悟りを開いて仏になることを目標とします。大乗仏教ではほとんどの場合、だれもが仏になれると説きます。しかし唯識では、この説を採用しません。
仏の本質は、真実です。そして、大乗仏教が説く真実は、「すべてが空」です。この２つをつなげると、仏の本質は皆にあることになります。
しかし唯識思想では、すべては識が作り出したと理解するので、「空」のはたらきを認めません。仏になる能力が誰にでもあるという論拠がないのです。
ただし、これは差別の容認ではありません。俗世間の身分は、悟りを開く能力と無関係です。唯識思想が、差別の正当化に利用された形跡はありません。

At February 21, I lectured on the Consciousness-only doctrine of Buddhism at an extension lecture of Shukutoku University.
The objective of the Mahayana Buddhism is awakening to become buddhas. Almost sects of the Mahayana Buddhism preach that all beings are able to become buddhas. But, the Consciousness-only doctrine do not preach such a theory.
The essence of buddhas is the truth. It is the truth of the Mahayana Buddhism that everything is Sunya (emptiness). Thus, all beings contain the essence of buddhas.
However, the Consciousness-only doctrine does not admit influences of Sunya (emptiness) because it preaches that consciousness make everything. There are no bases that all beings have capacity to become buddhas.
But, it is not approval of discrimination. Rank in the civil world are not related with capacity to awaken. There is no sign that the Consciousness-only doctrine have been utilized for justifying discrimination.
